In Memory

Charles David Brammer

David Brammer passed away on February 6,2019 after living a really wonderful life. Throughout his life David remained friends with many of his Huntington High School Class of 1959 classmates, and for several years he and his wife, Bobbie, hosted our annual Fall Festival at his farm in Summersville. The event became known as “Brammerfest.” David grew up in the West End attending Harveytown Elementary and West Junior High School, and HHS with his twin brother, Robert  (Bob) Brammer. Bob died in a boating accident in June of 2015.

David was born on February 22, 1941, son of the late William Oliver Brammer and Hazel Virginia Bing Brammer. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Vass Brammer; a brother, William Gregory (Greg) Brammer; two sons, Matthew Brammer of Fairmont, WV, and Steven Brammer of Cocoa Beach, FL; and three grandchildren. After high school, David attended Marshall University, graduating in 1964 with a BS Degree in chemistry. In 1965 he began a 31-year career with the Central Intelligence Agency’s Office of Technical Service (OTS), retiring in 1996 as a senior manager. OTS provides research, development, production, testing and deployment of equipment and techniques used in clandestine agent operations. During his years with the CIA David and his wife lived in the Washington, DC area, Japan, Germany, India and Florida. He married Bobbie in 1966 and after retirement from the CIA in1996, he returned to the mountains of West Virginia, settling on a 192 acre retreat in Summersville.

David loved his farm, and managed the woods and wildlife on his farm and two neighbor’s properties that comprise 442 acres. He was active in the West Virginia Woodland Owner’s Association, National Wild Turkey Federation, Quality Deer Management Association, the Nicholas County Farm Bureau and the West Virginia Bee Keepers Association. David and Bobbie had more than 20 bee hives, three gardens that produced fruits for jams and jellies. He also planted more than 40 apple, cherry and peach trees. David always provided his friends with his “Hidden Valley Beehives” honey which he also sold commercially.

David said he always remembered his good times at Huntington High School and loved to attend our “Lunch Bunch” gatherings and class reunions.

As David requested, no funeral has been scheduled but a family service will be held later. Condolences may be sent to Bobbie Brammer at 307 Bibb Lane, Summersville, WV 26651
